Hello again and welcome to the second
edition of Blenheim Community News. We have several pieces of good news
for the group since our last publication, more of
which inside. As you can see from the photo above we have also been
abseiling to gather funds. A big thank you to all the leadership team
for organising the event and for the people taking part. We never
expected so many of you and it was great to see this many people
involved in fund-raising for Blenheim. As the day was so successful we
are considering doing something like this again so keep tuned! If any
local groups are interested in this or many other supervised activities
then please contact the office for help.
The Plans for the community facility
at Cheddar Grove are moving along and as funds become available we are
starting on projects outside of the main building. This enables our
young people to reap the benefits already and for local people to see we
are moving forward. A full size football pitch is marked out and already
being used for league matches and as reported in the last issue our
archery range is up and running. Many of the children have already
practised archery but have had to travel to Woodhouse Park to do so. Now
the leadership team can offer archery to all the children on a regular
basis as well as to other groups in the area. We are pleased to also
announce plans for a MUGA (Multi User Games Area) based at Cheddar
Grove. This is a floodlit all weather pitch surrounded by fencing which
can be used for many sports from the more traditional football, cricket
and netball to basketball,
hockey, tennis and volleyball. The MUGA will benefit the school during
the day and in the late afternoon and early evening will be used not
only by Blenheim but will be
available for hire by local groups. Blenhiem are also very keen to have
several free play’ slots where children can play five a side or cricket
in a safe and supervised
environment. These sessions will be open to any local children whether
members of Blenheim or not and we hope to get as many local children
involved in sport and team activities as we can. An idea of how the MUGA
will look on site is shown.
Blenheim, with the help of all your fund-raising efforts this year have
purchased a minibus to replace one of our older ones. The new bus will
be used for outings with
the children and can also be hired by other local community groups and
schools giving us an income to spend on updating or purchasing new
equipment. We constantly have to renew equipment due to wear and tear
and to enable us to provide new activites. An example of this was the
purchase of new climbing ropes for the abseil and new camping equipment
for the many hikes and camps the young people attend. As always we ask
you to attend as many fund-raising events as you can and assure you that
all of the money raised benefits the young people. As the abseil was
such a success we hope to organise something similar in the future,
either higher or maybe even underground! If you have any ideas then
please contact the office or one of the leaders. Budding Robin Hoods and
Maid Marians The archery centre is proving a great success with young
people from Cheddar Grove having taken part in introductory lessons.
Salem Chapel Youth Club being just one of several other community groups
who have also attended some fun sessions. Recently
added flood Lighting makes the centre available into the evenings and a
weekly archery club will be starting from early November.
Many thanks for your time
